Hollyhocks at the New Provo Temple

I took visiting grandchildren to the new temple this morning.
I was pleased to see an abundance of Hollyhocks in many flower beds.
I told the little girls that my grandmother's grandmother used to make skirts for flower dolls from Hollyhocks.
These well-trained children were concerned that those pioneer daughters might have gotten in trouble.  I assured them that this was why the flowers were planted.

Yellow Jacket Nest

I came across this yellow jacket nest in my neighborhood last night.
I walked back this morning to get better light.  The nest is high in the trees.  I'm glad I have a good zoom.
On the one hand, this is extremely interesting.
On the other hand, this way creeped me out.

Entertaining Hummingbirds

I was charmed by the flitter of hummingbirds at the feeder this morning.
I grabbed my camera and stood still on the porch.
This is a Rufous hummingbird.
I'm not very good at telling one from another until I study my pictures.
I am still working on coaxing my camera to focus on the birds.
The sports feature can't seem to do the job, so these are still shots.
I am determined to get better at this.
Fortunately, I have all summer.

Hideaway Nest

My family enjoyed a picnic at Big Springs Canyon this afternoon.  I was pleased to spy this nest tucked away in the top of a table shelter.  Maybe the bird wasn't as pleased as I was.

Canna

I am not very camera savvy. Having said that, I have learned about the HDR setting.  It's one of my favorites and it worked well today with this canna in the morning light.

Beautiful Morning

I open the back door on beautiful mornings.
Birds at the feeders caught my attention.
Chickadees have recently discovered Ben's suet.
Birds are beautiful creatures.
So delicate.
My camera and I had been hiding among the trailing vines of my planters.
Oh, what a beautiful morning.

Dragonfly

A little work in the yard today brought me nose to nose with this guy.
